History

1864

The Geneva Treaty was signed. The International Red Cross was founded.

1877

Hakuaisha (The Philanthropical Society, predecessor to the Japanese Red Cross) was founded by Tsunetami Sano, Yuzuru Ogyu, and others.

1887

Hakuaisha was renamed the Japanese Red Cross Society.

1890

Nursing education was started at the Japanese Red Cross Hospital.

1929

Department of Relief Nursing was founded for nursing education at the Japanese Red Cross Central Hospital.

1946

The Japanese Red Cross Practical College of Nursing was established.

1954

The Japanese Red Cross Junior College for Women was established.

1966

The above was renamed the Japanese Red Cross Central Junior College for Women, part of the newly accredited Japanese Red Cross Academy.

1986

With the start of a four-year curriculum, the above was reorganized into the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing.

1993

The Graduate School was established, and the Master’s program was started.

1995

The Doctor’s program was started.

1996

Co-education was introduced.

1998

The Transfer System was introduced.

2000

An Agreement was signed between the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing and the University of Colorado for the development of academic cooperation.

2005

The College was incorporated with the Japanese Red Cross Musashino Junior College of Nursing, and the number of undergraduate students was doubled. The Certified Nurse Specialist’s program (Master of Nursing) (Child Health Nursing / Chronic Care Nursing / Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing) was started. The Florence Nightingale Medal was awarded to Yasuko Higuchi, PhD, then President of the College.

2007

The Master’s program in International Health Care and Midwifery was started. The Florence Nightingale Medal was awarded to Midori Kawashima, the Dean of the College.

2008

Japanese/Sweden Red Cross College Exchange Program started.

2010

Practice Nursing Graduate Program in Nursing Administration and Teaching started.

2011

Japanese Red Cross Institute for Humanitarian Studies has been set up and is being operated by the Japanese Red Cross Academy.

Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing and Faculty of Nursing, Chulalongkorn University MoU.

Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing and Institut et Haute Ecole de la Santé La Source MoU.

The Graduate School of Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing have set up a Cooperative Doctoral Program for Disaster Nursing.

Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing and University of the Philippines Manila College of Nursing MoU.

The 30th foundation anniversary of the college
